Hipee!!!! We are 13 years old today. Wow, that is simply unbelievable. It feels like yesterday when you and I met physically for the first time at Ikeja Water Parks, Lagos (I’ll tell you the story someday) during my mom’s 70th birthday.
Last year I wrote you a lovely mushy love note on our 12th anniversary. My desire since the early years of our marriage was for God to make my marriage one that I will be able to write a love note to my hubby every anniversary. I thank God he made that possible.
This year the love note will take a new dimension unlike the mushy ones in the past. I do not feel like talking mushy today but rather reflect back on this last year of our life together. You will admit that we have indeed gone through a lot…..very eventful year you will agree with me, right? Even the world can attest to it. From relocation to the loss of your father and the bombshell of my mother’s death. I can’t even begin to imagine how we sailed through it. At some point, it looked like a never ending story. But for His grace….. God’s grace…..
I must confess that I have seen multiple faces and colors of you in the last 13 years but the one I saw in the last 6 months just surpassed my imagination. I’m sure even you did not realize you had it in you……..maybe you do. In all that happened, one thing I can say is that you kept your cool. There were times when I did not even know how or where to navigate and you will tell me “baby don’t worry”. At other times, I was just blank. Thanks so much for who you are and what you are to me.
I attended a friend’s 40th birthday few weeks back and in a speech she gave addressing her husband, she made a very profound statement. She told her husband “you are precious to me”. Immediately I heard her say this, it resonated in my soul. Even though this is just a 5-word statement, it elucidates in a nut shell what you are to me. I say it boldly today “Dokun, you are precious to me”. Thank you for being my bestie, my partner in all, my love, my lover, my mentor, my adviser, my co-laborer in God’s vineyard, my tutor, my educator, my counselor, my playmate, my comforter….what else are you to me?…….Tolusworld reader please assist in adding beautifully to the list… 🙂
Before our wedding my mother prayed for us in Yoruba dialect…. Ee jo fi oruka owo yin pa iwu seyin” meaning… “together, with your wedding rings on your fingers, you will both use your hands to brush back your grey hair”…… meaning, we will grow old together.
Baby, you know my heart and you know what I wish for you and us. One thing I earnestly pray for every day is God’s protection and guidance. That he will guide and guard us jealously. That our joy will never be cut short and the Lord will hide our household from calamity and bless the work of our hands. His teachings will never depart from our heart. ‘Looking forward to the next 60 something years together….. 🙂 🙂
At the end of my love notes, I always pray for marriages going through challenges and for singles trusting and looking to God for a future partner…..the bible says “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint”……It also says…”When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like they that dream”. Because you have put your trust in God, you will testify IJN…..It is well with you.
May God bless my marriage……and yours too. Amen 🙂
